There are a few issues with the Instructions. They're not comprehensive. You must have some mechanical skill and be able to think the instructions through after reading them. If you read this review and the other helpful positive reviews, you'll find out most of the work around for this kits minor issues. So read on ...
There should be a pad to prevent rubbing on the underside of the tube where it meets the factory tube rest. I used a square 3M rubber pad that has a self adhesive side.
The factory fuse box, located just in front of the coolant tank, has to be relocated in the opposite direction of where it was. Pull it from the holes it's mounted in and move it backwards 180° in the opposite direction. Zip tie it to the wire harness.
Use the kits supplied aluminum screws for the Mass air flow sensor. If you use the ford factory stainless steel screws that mount it to the stock air box there will be corrosion between the 2 metals called "electrolysis".
The rubber seal you have to press onto the air dam bunches up in the corner and is difficult to get installed properly. I should've cut a "v" notch in the inner part of the rubber seal. That would've prevented the bunch up.
The MAF sensor wire needs to be rerouted under the power steering reservoir bracket and over to the new plug in location next to the power steering reservoir itself.
The metal tab that mounts the air filter housing on the side, goes between the plastic tab of the coolant tank and the metal behind it . Also the other tab, in front, goes between the radiator shroud tab and the metal behind it.
The air filter is expected quality, good in my opinion. Clean and recharge it properly like a K&N air filter and you should get several years out of it.
The hose clamps are polished stainless steel. They appear to be quality. I placed the adjustment screw part in behind the tube so they aren't visible when you look at the finished instal, In case you want to show off you new cold air intake. Also the hose clamps that are on the throttle body adapter tube are mounted so the adjustment goes screw part is easily accessed for maintenance reasons. Not smart to place them in behind (not visible), they would be difficult to access.
I have uploaded a lot of pictures so that you can see all the issues I've mentioned. Also so that you can see the fix I've found for them.
This kit isn't a miracle in a box. Just an aftermarket cold air intake and lesser expensive option than a K&N kit.
Over all I'm happy with this air intake. It's louder because the factory air box , which is bulky , isn't there to muffle the throttle body noise. It sounds good though.
If I can keep my foot out of it , it might just get better fuel mileage. But I'm not thinking it'll be a big improvement.
I hear adding a "programer" to this helps also.
I might mention that I have a 24" " glass pack" instead of a regular muffler which aids in completing the flow from the intake all the way through the exhaust system.
It definitely has a quicker feel to the acceleration. The engine feels free from restriction. Acceleration from a stop is easier and noticably better. Definitely improved power from what I notice.
I read the other reviews. Some negative reviews may have been by people not experienced enough to install and use logical work arounds. They also may have been sent a kit that was a return/resell. Maybe the manufacturer let's a few kits through that have parts not properly passed quality inspection.
The pictures I uploaded came through in random, sorry for this. Not sure why they didn't upload in the proper order.
